CHILDREN AND CHILD SUPPORT
CARE OF CHILDREN
The Family Law Act and the Divorce Act set out very different regimes for the care of children.
The Divorce Act still relies on the traditional concepts of guardianship, custody and access.
The Family Law Act still considers guardianship but the concept or custody has been replaced with parental responsibilities and access has been replaced by parenting time.
You know your children better than anyone else. It is our job to work with you to come up with the very best care arrangement for your children.
CHILD SUPPORT
The Child Support Guidelines set out the framework under which child support responsibilities are determined.
When we work with you on child support issues we ensure, amongst other things, that:
- incomes both parents are calculated accurately;
- extraordinary expenses are divided properly; and
- parenting arrangements are taken into account when determining who should be paying how much child support.
